    • Cerdic was the King of Wessex and the first king of the West Saxons. He was crowned at Winchester in 532. He was a Saxon earldorman who founded a settlement on the coast of Hampshire, England in 495, assumed the title of King of the West Saxons in 519, and became the ancestor of the English royal line.
