    Notes
    • A pen picture of Alexander Fletcher was written in 1896 by his grandson J. Wesley Fletcher. Grandfather soon after marriage settled below the Whirlpool on the British side of the Niagara where Uncle John was born. He afterward about 1800 moved to Darlington where he was Major of the 2nd Durham Militia and one of the first magistrates of Durham County then a part of York. He was a small man of considerable attainments; was very bright, systematic, shrewd, active, nervous, quick tempered, a very loyal British subject and a strict Presbyterian. He died in his 78th year and Grandmother (Rachel Corwin Fletcher) in her 72nd year." —The Ancestral Lines of Chester Everts Howell, Finch 1976
