Wife and children of Poindexter and Jane Lily Toney.
From "The Book of Toney" by Brenda Beatty. I believe the log cabin was built by Pointdexter Toney on Toney's Branch when he brought Jane Lilly to western Virginia. It is the type that was built at that time, without windows, to ward off the indians. Poindexter's first wife and children were killed by the indians. I believe this to be a photo of Harvey Toney and Mariah Fauver Toney and their family, taken around 1861 during the Civil War. Harvey Toney is tanding behind Mariah Fauver Toney, his wife. I believe the woman beside her is Jane Lilly, wife of Poindexter Toney and mother of Harvey Toney. Behind Jane is her daughter. The young woman in the plaid dress appears pregnant. I think she is America Jane Toney Hudson, daughter of Mariah and Harvey. The girl is Nancy Toney (Nan); she and John Harvey were only a year apart in age and stayed close their whole lives. John Harvey Toney was around 5 years of age.
